Each activity addresses a range of specific literacy strategies. All 15 activities promote monitoring comprehension, synthesizing, asking questions, developing vocabulary, connecting prior knowledge to new learning, and developing a topic in writing.
Peace Corps Challenge
A website designed by Peace Corps to give kids a sense of how it would be to become a Peace Corps Volunteer. The kids are given a series of challenges to solve in the virtual village of Wanzuzu and a guide to talk to if they get stuck. They are encouraged to talk to as many villagers as possible to collect clues to solve the problems. Many "gifts" are also given but the kids will need to learn how to use them wisely, and in ways that are for the best interest of "the villagers". Bonus points are given to those who can come up with sustainable solutions to problems.
